To launch the newly built pitch a team from Synygy - the funders of 50% if the build cost, played a match against a team of City of Child residents and volunteers.
After a delicious lunch at the City of Child compound a presentation ceremony was held to honour those who had contributed to the cricket pitch project. Special guests were presented with garlands and asked to say a few words. The director of Synygy, Chetan Shan, unveiled the cricket pitch sign, declaring it open.
The first official match began in high spirits. A big cheer erupted from the crowd at the opening bowl. Both Synygy and City of Child teams were enthusiastic, despite the sweltering heat. It was clear that the children enjoyed themselves , especially when the won the match in the 10th over.
Some of the locals came along to watch the game making good use of the built-up seating area and adding the atmosphere and excitement, while the children celebrated their win with the Synygy employees by playing games and singing songs before saying farewell.
It
was felt all round that everyone had served to underline the importance of such a resource as the cricket pitch. The pitch is an easily sustainable area that can be used over and over again for the benefit of the children. Not only will they be able to pursue their favourite passtime more easily , their sense of community will increase with their team spirit. The cricket pitch at City of Cild is and will continue to be a great success.
