Eye Camps: Vision Aid Overseas visit Pune
From 14th to 28th January, the Vision Aid Overseas team were in Pune. VAO organises visits for UK-based optometrists to come and run eye camps here and in several African countries. During their two-week stay, Anne and her team worked incredibly hard, clocking up ten separate eye camps (five urban, five rural) and giving check-ups to almost 2,000 people. Deep Griha Society handled coordination and logistics and also supplied staff and volunteers to help out.
Many people were given prescriptions and issued with spectacles on the spot, but others were been referred for further treatment, to be followed up by DGS. For example, cataracts are a major problem in both urban and rural areas; through the eye camps, people can be diagnosed and referred for a simple operation that can make a significant difference.
DGS would like to extend enormous thanks for the efforts put in by the Vision Aid Overseas team. We look forward to seeing you again next year...
