Jyoti R. Salukhe was 17 in 2000 when she saw an advert for a Deep Griha clinic. Since her first appointment that spring she has undergone two operations on her jaw and nose which have been life changing for her. The structural problems around Jyoti’s jaw had caused her difficulties throughout her life, making her the victim of prejudice, despite having had several operations during childhood.

After attending an appointment at a clinic an initial operation was arranged by Deep Griha for the same summer. This was a ten hour operation to relocate Jyoti’s jaw and insert a plate. However another operation was also scheduled for 2002, this time to remove some bone from her rib and use it to restructure her nose. Jyoti described her surgery as “amazing” and went on to describe the difference it had made to her life. She explained how prior to the medical care provided by Deep Griha her confidence had suffered as a result of the negative responses and discrimination to which she was subject. Moreover she also encountered difficulties holding conversation because people responded negatively if they didn’t immediately understand her speech, something which made her feel helpless.

It was wonderful to speak to Jyoti and see how confident and articulate she is now. Jyoti was grateful for all the care and support Deep Griha had given her, both pre and post surgery because she felt it had been very thorough. Moreover, she explained that having the surgery has given her the confidence to complete her graduate studies in finance independently.

She is now in the process of finding the right M.B.E course for her here in Pune because her ambition is to become a financial manager in the future. Jyoti now “faces any problem face on” and for this she says she will never forget all Deep Griha have done for her.
