DIYA Youth Resource & Activity Centre

In July 2008, Deep Griha opened its new centre for young people aged 14-25 in Ramtekdi - DIYA.

DIYA stands for Deep Griha's Integrated Youth Resource and Activity Centre, and also means 'light' in Marathi. DIYA aims to empower young people by providing access to a wide range of opportunities.

By providing a safe, supportive environment, the centre offers an alternative to criminal behaviour and substance abuse. DIYA provides:

  • Recreation facilities (including dance, theatre and fine arts workhops, board games)
  • Skills development (including English classes, computer courses, and tailoring courses)
  • Awareness sessions (on topics such as sex and sexuality, drug abuse, and domestic violence)
  • Counselling facilities

One of our primary aims is to ensure sustainability for the centre, partially through the extensive involvement of youth in the administration and execution of the centre's programmes. This capacity building is a key step to empowering beneficiaries to assume ownership and responsibility for the project.
