Yuva Sphurti Kendra IT School

Launched in 2007, the Yuva Sphurti Kendra (Youth Inspirational Centre) is a joint initiative between Deep Griha and Satyam Foundation (the corporate social responsibility arm of Satyam Computer Services). The project aims to provide up to 1,000 young people from the slums with the skills needed to enter into Pune's booming IT industry.

Open to young men and women aged 18-30, the two-month courses are run throughout the year at the Family Welfare Centre, Tadiwala Road, six days a week. Morning sessions provide English language teaching, vocational advice and personality development, and the afternoon is spent learning computer skills. Satyam Foundation provides the teaching staff and has donated 35 computers for the classroom.

Previous graduates from the scheme have gone on to find work with IT companies, in call centres, and as receptionists.

In 2008, we have also begun a new partnership with the Taj Blue Diamond hotel to provide hospitality and catering training for our Yuva Sphurti students, further increasing employment prospects.

Up to September 2008, 80 students had found jobs after graduation from the course.

"I heard about this course from my neighbour. The course has helped me learn not just the basic computer skills and spoken English but has helped me to build confidence in myself. I have now secured a job in Taj Blue Diamond as a data entry operator."
