My journey started when I was invited to attend a
Wake Up Pune! ‘Bootcamp’ by a friend who volunteered at DGS. Since that day I have not been able to stop myself from coming here whenever I have free time.

I quickly learned that DGS is not just involved with HIV/AIDS. The Society works for people of every age and sex among the communities it serves. More programmes start and new people get involved every day.
I have learned so much at DGS over time. For example, while raising awareness of HIV/AIDS I have learned about so many myths and facts that I didn’t know about previously.
Volunteering has also helped me change for the better as a person. I was very shy. At DGS I am required to talk to different people every day, so my urge to help people has helped me overcome obstacles in myself.
I have learned to see life from a different perspective. While spending time in the kids’ club I was astonished to see how smart the little ones can be! They are so full of energy. When I see them play, laugh and share I often see things that we as grown-ups have forgotten.
I have had the chance to meet some young students living in slums. Interacting with them I realised that they have the same hopes, dreams and fears that I have. There is something in common that binds us together.
I have made a lot of friends belonging to all age groups at DGS. My youngest friend is about two years old and the eldest is 80 years old! They each have a unique quality to them.
I have also had the chance to meet people from many countries. Now I can proudly say that although I have never left India I have friends from all over the world! I have made friends who live in Pune, too. We share the same zeal to help people.
The journey with Deep Griha has just begun. In such a short span I have learned so much. I can’t wait for the adventures that lie in the future!
